Every March 19th, a "miracle" occurs -- the swallows return to the Mission San Juan in Capistano, California --
an occurence made famous by a Glenn Miller tune.
Not to be outdone, the town folk of Hinkley, Ohio celebrate an earlier holiday -- the return of the local buzzards (turkey vultures)
which always touch down on March 15th.

I am 400 miles north of San Juan Capistrano and was surpised to see some cliff swallows were back by March 11. No sign of the barn swallows yet though! They are usually around March 21st.
,,and on the 16th, we saw the first vultures of the season in Deming, NM ;)
