Mr. Miagi was Not Neville Chamberlain

What do you do with a bully?

If you are Neville Chamberlain, you try to appease him.

If you are Mr. Miagi, you kick a little ass.

One works. The other doesn't.

Is ass-kicking needed very often in the real world? No. In fact, it's almost never needed.

But when it is needed, there is no substitute.

This remake of The Karate Kid has Jackie Chan in the Pat Morita role, Jaden Smith (Will Smith's son) in the Ralph Macchio role, and the whole story set in Beijing.

The martial art of choice is Kung Fu, but NO they are not changing the title.

Prediction: Massive box office. Massive.

Apparently laughter is a pretty good punishment in certain situations, although it might set you up for a smackdown around the wrong people. At the very least, it's supposed to be very effective against men who expose themselves in public for the shock value.

I can only imagine what effect it would've had against the guy who had the gun pointed at me. Which is probably why I didn't think to use that tactic right then. There's a difference between sending a passive "You aren't a threat to me" message versus an aggressive "I'm a bigger threat than you." The Hero Archetype is a good way to end up hurt or dead, unless you really know what the hell you're doing and the stars align to make everything turn out all hunky-dory.
