In Idaho, I'm not holding my breath. There are too many anti-wolf demagogues.
Butch Otter is the mainstream Republican in Idaho. You should see the real black helicopter people. I've been following Idaho policies toward wolves for a while, and they are probably the most anti-wolf state in the union. It's not that someone like Rex Rammell is going to ever be governor. It's that people like Rex Rammell drive the Republican Party in that state over the edge. The reason why West Virginia almost never elects Republicans to state office is because the Republican Party in the state has been taken over by the black helicopter crowd. In Idaho, where the Democratic Party is so weak, these people can run roughshod over just about anything.
And as we've seen with the public option for health care debate, lunatics can really drive policy.
