The Same, All Over

THE CREEPING VETERINARY DRIFT towards upcoding, price-gouging, and medically unnecessary  “services” is on the move in the UK.

And guess what?

They get the same apologists over there as we do here — vets and vet techs who deny what every dog owner, consumer group, and government regulatory entity has when found whrn they look into it.

So what’s new in the UK?

Just this:

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is conducting a market investigation into veterinary services for household pets….

As part of our market investigation into veterinary services for household pets in the UK, the CMA has outlined potential remedies that may be needed if we were to find competition concerns that we’d need to address.

We’re consulting with vet businesses, veterinary professionals and other interested parties on the likely effect of the remedies we’re considering in this working paper.

For some idea of what “competition concerns” might mean, see what’s happened, and is happening, in the US.

None of this is new, and it’s the same “stuff”in the UK and Canada as we see in the US.
