Eleven baby ducks — the first of the year.
These are double hybrids— the male and female are on the right, above. The green head with white is a mallard x domestic peking cross, and the female directly ahead of him is a black duck, with maybe a little peking crossed in too. These ducks were at local downtown lake.
The realist in me knows two ducklings will go to snakes, two to turtles, two to disease, two to raccoons or fox, and two to hawks. One will make it to maturity.
Such is life, red in tooth and claw.
