Back before Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Google maps, instant weather, 7-time zones on your watch, and turn-by-turn directions, when you left the city for forest or sea you were more or less on your own. In that kind of situation, this heart-shaped powder flask from 1560, was the “Apple Watch” of its day, with compass and sundial. In the British Museum, and made in Austria or Germany.
