Red Fox Population Rise and Fall

Red Fox populations in the UK are down due to rabbit and hare disease, but urban fox numbers are up because rats and trash are not impacted by rabbit and hare disease.

What about hunting? Hunting has very little impact on red fox numbers anywhere, and that is especially true in the UK, where leghold and kill fox traps and poison have been banned. Hounds, terriers, lamping, and snares may reduce numbers over a few thousand acres, but will have little impact on national or even regional numbers.
