Moxie found a groundhog in this sette, which was well packed with leaves. The locator put her at 12 feet, and I’d left my tools in the truck about a half mile back. She bayed it for about 10 minutes, then went quiet for about 20. I hate silence, but I trust my dogs, and I figured the groundhog had walled up and pushed debris between it and the dog. I settled in and waited with my ear at the hole, and I eventually heard her digging on. I called her out. Happily she obeyed. I’ve waited hours for a dog to come off a raccoon, but groundhogs will throw up enough dirt to confuse a dog long enough that it may actually listen.
