Edvard Munch's Woman With Airedale Painting
Edvard Munch painted Woman With Airedale Terrier in 1924 or 1925.
I know from my grandfather that airedales were popular among raccoon hunters of that day, who would keep one with their packs. This is for the kind of hunting where the dogs are turned loose and the hunters wait until they hear the dogs barking up. The hunters keep track of the hounds' location by the baying and the hunters' knowledge of the local terrain. The airedales "ran silent" he said. I've never been sure why that was considered a good thing.
