When Did Your Breed Show Up at Westminster?

A Scottie is a cancer bomb on legs.
Scottes are twice as likely to die at two years of age as live to age 16.

AKC registrations have declined more than 70 percent
over the course of the last 17 years, but the show must go on, and this year the AKC will be adding more defective, diseased and deformed breeds to the parade of dysfunction known as the Westminster Dog Show.

My local paper did some stories on some of the dogs from Ohio going to the show.

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/life_and_entertainment/2012/02/11/tell-tail-attributes.html

One thing that disturbed me is either trick photography, or something I've never considered: if you view the slideshow by clicking on the picture of the woman with the Pyrenean shepherd, the Glen of Imaal terrier appears as big as a basset! (It's the third one in) It's no WONDER those dogs are ever worked...35 pounds is the "standard." Bred to hunt badger and fox? Riiiiight.

HAH! You know my (and yours) breed has NEVER shown up there. The Jack Russell Club wants nothing to do with this inbred, oversized, frustrated bunch of dogs or their idiot owners.

Debi and the TX JRTs

Interesting that in the six decades prior to 2000, an average of 6.7 breeds were added per decade. This increased to 17 breeds from 2000-2009, and 15 more breeds were added 2010-2012 (just three years, so if that pace continues, they would add 30 breeds in this decade).

It would appear that the AKC figures one way to fight declining registration numbers is to accept more breeds.
