Bear Versus Squid
Over at Sea Monster, Emmett Duffy has this awesome pictue of a black bear with a Humboldt Squid -- no doubt a beach scavage.
My journalist brother has written a number of articles on those ugly things (the squid, not the bear) starting when they invaded our hometown harbor in 2009 - but 3 years later they seem to have all disappeared. Fishermen think that they don't reproduce so far north (N. Calif.) but there seem to be other theories. Sport fishermen like them, regular fishermen say the jumbo squid eat everything in sight. The bear looks pleased.
