When you dramatically cut taxes and increase military spending, you are committing long-term economic suicide. We used to understand this, which is why paying taxes during war time was once seen as a hallmark of patriotism, celebrated even by Walt Disney.
One of the essential lies of the right and the left is that America can do great things on the cheap... that we can wage war without an increase in taxes or mortality... that we can import cheap goods and that it will not cost jobs... and that we can import cheap labor and it will not cost jobs.
There is no free lunch. Why do so few people understand this basic truth?
