Eva Cassidy :: Over the Rainbow
Eva Cassidy was a local D.C. talent who died too young from melanoma. This was recorded live at Blues Alley. Her last set was played at the Bayou - all locations about two miles from my house. I never saw her live.
Thank you for mentioning this remarkable talent. Folks, if you have somehow managed to not hear her music, start right now... and prepare to SHIVER! What soul, what soul she possessed. And shared.
When I was planning my wedding in 1989, I called Grace Griffith about singing for us. She was incredibly nice, and cheerfully said, "I'll see if my friend Eva can sing with me. She's INCREDIBLE!" Coming from a talent like Grace, that got my attention. We missed out as Eva had another wedding booked for the same day as ours, but Grace did a more than wonderful job at ours. Grace has gone on to many accolades she well deserves, and Eva is now known worldwide. Too late for live enjoyment, for all of us who missed her in person.

Love Eva Cassidy. Her version of "Fields of Gold" is better than the original. Her voice gets me teary.
