Oldest Dog in World Dies

The oldest dog in the world has died at the age of 26 in Japan.  The dog was a cross-breed, and obviously very well cared for and with astoundingly tough genes, but most basic longevity markers in dogs can be traced to size (smaller dogs live longer), and proper body weight.  Generally dogs that are a little underweight and living on a "calorie restricted diet" will live longer than dogs that are at their "proper" weight, or are even a little over-weight. 

The oldest-known dog on record, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, was an Australian cattle dog named Bluey who lived to age of 29 years and five months before being put down in November 1939.

For the Doberman, Death at Age 10 Is Pride

Here's a summary statement from the Doberman Pinscher Club of America that tells you what you need to know:

A Longevity Certification (LC) may be awarded to any individual Doberman who reaches the age of 10 or greater. The LC can be awarded posthumously.

Age 10 is considered award-worthy. Of course, at this point it should be considered so for so many breeds, shouldn't it?
