This was the lead editorial in today's paper nine years ago, as Trump ran for office the first time.
Overt racism has not been a bug of the Trump Administration — it’s the KEY FEATURE and the thing that attracts all of his supporters.
Trump voters were, and are, willing to kill a million Americans from Covid and other health care quackery in order to rip hard-working Brown People from their jobs.
Trump voters are willing to gut veterans benefits, Civil
Service protections, and Medicaid in order to put Brown People in flooded cages and camps in the middle of a mosquito-infested swamp surrounded by alligators.
Trump voters are willing to ignore Trump’s 34 felony convictions for mortgage and tax fraud, and the billions of dollars pocketed by solicited illegal kickbacks paid in cryptocurrency and “meme coins,” so long as hard-working, focused, and well-educated Black Women lose their jobs and are humiliated for daring to be better.
Trump voters are unconcerned that 28 women have accused Donald Trump of sexual misconduct for acts that have included rape, and kissing and groping without consent. They voted for Trump knowing of the years of child rape by his best friend and frequent guest, Jeffrey Epstein.
That’s all fine, so long as Brown People can be terrorized by masked thugs, without identification, who are paid to smash down house doors, beat people up, wreck brown-owned businesses, raid elementary schools, and do random stops based solely on skin color.
Trump’s “dog whistle” of racism has never been silent or subtle.
It’s been so loud and overt that even the low-information “poorly educated” voters that Trump says he LOVES have heard it clearly.
Trump voters LOVE the racism.
Trump voters are fine with soaring prices in stores due to illegal and unprecedented tariffs, and no taxes at all paid by Trump and his big corporate sponsors at Amazon, Facebook, Apple, and Tesla.
The trade off is simple: Trump and his buddies will pay nothing, and we will *all* pick up the slack by shouldering $4 trillion in new debt AND seeing prices on almost everything go up 25 percent.
That’s all OK PROVIDED Brown People are deported to Uganda or Yemen, or some other country they are not from, and where they know no one, cannot speak the language, and where their security is absolutely *not* guaranteed.
Dumping a Salvadoran in Uganda? Perfect! Maybe they’ll get eaten by one of Idi Amin’s relatives!

Racism and cruelty is the point.
Racism and cruelty is WHY Trump voters support Trump.
It’s not “small government or “less taxation.”
It’s not national defense or “law and order”.
Trump not only pardoned the January 6th rioters who actually KILLED law enforcement officers, he’s pardoned Medicare frausters who’ve stolen billions of tax dollars.
Trump has pardoned triple murderers, rapists, human traffickers, embezzlers, violent gang leaders, million dollar tax cheats, politicians soliciting bribes, America’s biggest drug dealer, and…. the list is nearly endless.
No one in the history of the United States has pardoned more felons and serious criminals as Donald Trump.
It’s not even close.
And why not?
Aren’t many of these crimes ones Trump has done himself?!
And it’s all fine so long as Trump will round up the Brown People down at Home Depot, arrest those Brown People down at Dolphin Car Wash, and yank Brown People going to work off 6 am cross-town buses.
Throw those bastards in a cold cage without food, a blanket, medical attention, or a lawyer. Ship them five states away and don’t tell their families who has them, or where they are!
How fun!
And it’s only a little ironic that the dog whistle referenced in the Washington Post editorial 8 years ago (before it was bought by Trump-apologist Jeff Bezos) was first created by Francis Galton, the founder of the field of eugenics.
You remember eugenics, right? Eugenics gave us the deaths camps of World War II, but it also gave us the twisted intellectual thread that holds the Kennel Club together to this day.
The One Drop Rule? That’s the kind of thinking that Donald Trump, the KKK, Stephen Miller, and the American Kennel Club support to this day.
Any question as to why the AKC used to trot Westminster Dog Show winners over to get photographed with Donald Trump, a man who has never owned a dog?
In hindsight it seems obvious, doesn’t it?
