Sectioning a Very Big Tree

My neighbor and I sectioned most of this big tree this morning. This was the second run at it. The first run was branches and the smaller top logs. Next run we’ll section the last 16’ of the biggest part of the trunk, and start splitting the rounds. Each 16” thick round is too heavy to lift and can barely be rolled. A tractor with a front end loader will be used to move each round up to the splitter.

This is very solid Chestnut Oak (a type of White Oak), and the tree was completely solid except for the very base, which was so hollow the dogs could go right through the middle of it.
