The Up and Down of Mast Production

LAST YEAR we had a warm, dry Spring, and the acorn and hickory production on my wee knoll was off the charts due to high pollen production. I ended up hand-collecting 31 gallons of acorns, which were donated to the state arboretum for tree propagation. They even drove out to pick them up!

Acorn production is way down this year, as Spring was a bit colder and we had a normal amount of precipitation, and therefore less pollen and less pollen mobility.
