A Participation Game

Here’s a participation game:  go to www.petfinder.com and look for available dogs within 100 miles of where you live.

How many dogs?  How many of a type?

Now post a picture of a cutie you find in the comments, with a link to his or her profile.

For the record, there are 8,700 available dogs within 100 miles of me.

And that’s just today — another 8,000 dogs will be available within a week or two.

Which brings me to another point; it’s beyond bizarre to me that folks will spend three months researching a car, and will drive 100 miles for a car deal, but will limit their dog search to 15 miles and whatever is available this weekend.

That’s not someone looking for a pet dog; that’s someone looking for an excuse to go to a breeder for a puppy.  That’s not a crime, but hey let’s be honest about it.

Ok, now go to www.petfinder.com and post a cutie.

Show the world what’s possible. ❤️💕😇

THERE ARE 8,700 dogs on Petfinder.com right now, within 100 miles of my house. Are most dogs in rescue and pounds broken? Not in my experience. There are, however, a lot of lazy, hazy, and crazy people who should not have any dog. Folks who want a phlegmatic, low-energy, couch potato that never barks or chews and holds its wee for 20 hours have unreasonable expectations. The problem there is UP the leash, not down. xxx That said, two small tips: 1) Never, ever go to a breeder or shelter or rescue with kids in tow — you are setting yourself up to be unable to say “not this, right now”. 2) Try fostering before adopting. Think of it as “dating that may lead to a happy marriage.” 😀❤️
