The Blade Was Fast, the Memory Long

On the anniversary of the execution of King Charles I in 1659, and two years after his death, Oliver Cromwell’s body was exhumed, along with two of his enablers. The bodies were hanged at Tyburn and beheaded. Cromwell’s head was exhibited on a spike at Westminster Hall until 1685 -- 26 years.
