Old Age Hunts Us All

My wee little dog of a similar age sports the familiar silver graying pattern on his face after giving me years of a rich black/tricolor pattern typical of the toy fox or rat-type terriers. The brown patches on his muzzle, cheeks and eyebrows have given way to white with a sad bit of tan still holding on.

As much as I enjoy spoiling him in his old age and seeing that he still has energy to keep up as long as I am willing to let him have All The Naps, my other interest lies in the color genetics of the graying pattern of these old dogs. There has to be research on it somewhere, particularly with an explanation of the stark line across the top of the head between the ears where the hair is blacker on one side and whiter on the other, even as the hair on the pinnae remains jet black like Marley.

I'm still glad to see him getting around after his surgery, though. Age catches us all.
