Oak Pollen Coming Down in Drifts

Oak tree pollen at the new house is settling in drifts. The chestnut oak trees are at least 70 feet tall.

In the background is the dark mulch I spread yesterday. It will bleach out to the color of the other stuff in a few weeks.

I'm dreading walnut catkin season that's coming up in the next month or so. The relief is that the actual fruits are only produced every other year. Such a dirty tree, but this is an older neighborhood and it's such a large, well-established shade tree that it's really easier to deal with the annoyance. At least it's not a catalpa; I'd even take dealing with sweet gum pods over the leavings from a black walnut!
