The Scariest Thing My Parents Ever Faced

I was a caesarian section in Zimbabwe in 1959.

I cannot imagine the terror of my birth for my parents.

My father was from small town Pineville, Kentucky, my mother from small town Augusta, Kansas. They were smart, brave, romantic realists who were honest and never stopped learning. I am profoundly grateful.

It may have helped that I was the second child. My brother was born in Beirut, Lebanon.
