Today is the Anniversary of the January 6th insurrection in the US Congress —
the day in 2021 when an armed mob took over the US Capitol and beat and killed police officers while looking to kill Members of Congress and the Vice President of the United States.
The legacy of that day is much more than half a dozen dead bodies, and destroyed windows and doors.
The riot is ongoing.
To be clear, the Republican party is STILL comprised of anti-democracy traitors bent on the destruction of this nation.
118 current members of Congress — all Republican — voted to nullify the results of the 2020 election, and they voted that way after the riot, while blood and feces were still smeared in the halls of the US Capitol.
Yesterday, 20 ultra-MAGAs refused to seat a House Majority leader, forcing 11 votes before Congress adjourned to try a 12th vote later today.
But Kevin McCarthy’s supporters cannot honestly rend their garments in anguish because they are being “held hostage” by 20 QAnon lunatics.
The Chaos Caucus is simply the poisonous fruit of the diseased fascist tree that is today’s Republican party, and that tree has been nurtured, grown, and carefully tended for many years by Kevin McCarthy and his anti-democracy supporters in Congress and on Fox News.
The Chaos Caucus are not outliers in the GOP — they are the heartwood of the diseased tree.
How diseased is this tree? Consider this: Kevin McCarthy and his allies would rather sit on a pile of ash and rubble than reach across the aisle to woo a few dozen Democrats.
This is the tree of Dunning-Kruger; the phenomenon where the least competent are the most confident in their own righteous expertise.
Kevin McCarthy wants to be their king? Of course he does. Every person suffering under the malaise of Dunning-Kruger is certain they are the secret answer. Every member of the Chaos Caucus thinks their name will be put in consideration next.
What’s the solution?
Job one is to recognize the scope of the problem.
We don’t have a few poison apples; we have an entire forest of diseased trees.
Whatever happens in the next week is but a temporary fix.

Well said. This is a sad, depressing anniversary. I'm glad that Biden is awarding medals to the real patriots who stood up for the rule of law and the Constitution during the attempted coup, election results denying, and nearly successful insurrection. One of those goes posthumously to Officer Sicknick who died that day at the Capitol. That dumpster fire Mango Mussolini forever has blood on his hands, as does the entire Republican party.
