The Fox of My Youth

Fennecs, or Desert Fox, are the fox I would occassionally see sold in the markets of North Africa when I was a boy These wild-caught animals were frenetic and seemed poor pets. 

In Morocco, some years back, I saw a very poorly done taxidermy red fox for sale, but further research turned up that it was, in fact, a Rüppell's fox (Vulpes rueppellii), a type of true fox with somewhat larger ears and a slightly narrower snout than the normal red fox (Vulpes vulpes).
