Digging With a Busted Rib

I was not planning on digging — just a little experimental off-path biking through dry soybean fields that are waiting to get harvested.  We’d check on a few old fox settes that were certain to be empty as it was 73 degrees out.

A bit of noodling; that kind of thing.

I was wearing shorts and crocs, no gloves, and the dogs did not have on their locator collars —- just their e-collars. Going for a bike and run was all.

All went according to plan until I was headed back and only 300 yards from the truck. I was focused on biking up a small hill. Moxie took that opportunity to leave the farm road by about 10 feet and go to ground under a tangle of tree roots and multiflora on a high bank. She was in on a possum, and was fine, but I still had to dig her out. It wasn’t particularly fun, as I’ve got at least one broken rib from the High Wheel Fiasco a couple of weeks ago, and it hurts a bit just to breathe.

Ah well, we’re not dead yet, and the dogs got out for a run around. All good — a day I do not regret, even if now it’s an ad for Advil.
