Wolves and Dragons

Wolves only manage a 15-20% hunting success rate.

The Cheetah has a kill rate in the 50s, while other big cats score in the 30s.

The African Wild Dog has an impressive 85% success rate.

But the most successful predator?

Believe it or not, it’s probably the dragonfly, with an estimated success rate of 95%.

And guess what? Many species of dragonflies migrate.

Each year, millions of dragonflies arrive on the Maldive Islands. Where do they come from? Believe it or not, they fly from the mainland of southern India on monsoon winds.

The total round-trip distance of these dragonflies is 14,000 to 18,000 km, or about twice as far as the migration of monarch butterflies between Mexico and Southern Canada.

Over 98% of the dragonflies that show up in the Maldives are the aptly named species known as "Globe Skimmers" (Pantala flavescens).
