Japanese Grizzlies?

There are more Brown Bears (aka Ursus arctos) on the Japanese island of Hokkaido than there are in the lower 48 of the United States, where our Brown Bear subspecies is called the Grizzly.

About 73 percent of Hokkaido is forested, compared to 20 percent of Wyoming and Montana.
