Guess Who Lost the Space Race?
Monkeys and dogs got into space before Elon Musk, Richard Branson, or Jeff Bezos.
My husband tells me this story of the 'space chimp'. His dad was was the supervisory ironworker for the Vertical Assembly Building at the cape during the space race. When the chip capsule came back to NASA. The chimp came out and photographers asked NASA engineers to place the chimp back in the capsule for a photo op. Well, if you have any idea how strong these animals are. The chimp was NO WAY going back into that capsule after coming out from space. It outmuscled several strong men that were trying to place it back in the space capsule. My father-in-law was there and saw that moment.
