The Picture Before the Unintentional Swim

I had a great day on the river, except for about 10 minutes when I dumped myself and the kayak.

That little mishap was solely due to inattention on my part.  The water was really quite calm; no excuse other than stupidity and failure to stay on task. The kayak itself is very stable provided you don't get cross wise with the current and lean too much while doing so.

'Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn." -- CS Lewis.

I lost my iPhone into 10 feet of coffee-colored water, as well as a selfie-stick/tripod combo, my glasses, and a cheap anchor.

Ah well, at least I have my health.

The kayak is fine, the Ford Escape still rolls, no one died (or is even sick), and the  bicycle is in fine shape.

Things could certainly be worse ... and no doubt will be soon enough.

The camera -- a Nikon Coolpix 900 -- is now in a huge bowl of dry rice which is supposed to act as a desiccant and pull out all the water.

I have little hope that dry rice this will save it, but if it does I will consider it a miracle worthy of the Bible.

As for the phone, I had replacement insurance for it (minus a $250 deductible), and a new one has already been shipped.  A replacement phone case has also been ordered off Amazon. I have a duplicate self-stick too, so no real loss there.

My glasses? Yes, I have replacements there too. Still... a new order may be due. I pay less than $50 a pair for prescription glasses, so I suppose I will survive this loss as well.

The picture at top is the last one taken before the camera and I took a swim together; an immature Bald Eagle.

Not a bad shot considering it was taken by a idiot on a bobbing kayak. Click to enlarge.

I'm glad you came through Ok and survived to post another day! Spring is deceiving. The water temp is still in hypothermia territory in New England, I imagine it's only just a few degrees warmer in the mid Atlantic...
