The Beyond Meat company is valued at billions, but is having a struggle in the marketplace.
The company lost $43.2 million in the first 6 months of 2021 compared to a $6.3 million loss in the first 6 months of 2020.
Growth, which was expected to be 40 percent, has been about 2 percent.
I’m all for more plants in everyone’s diets, but the idea that folks who want to eat more vegetables want them in the form of slightly weird meat has always been a bit of a puzzle to me.
Add in the fact that the Beyond Burger is not healthier than beef; if has the same calories, fat, and proteins, but four times as much salt.
Throw in the cost: $2 a pattie as compared to $1 a pattie for beef, and you can see a long-term problem.
