I had a rare breakout of summer fleas that was not ameliorated by a regular flea bath, as they were jumping between multiple dogs and had infested at least two locations, so I broke out the "heavy weapons":
- Plastic Flea Combs (much better than the metal ones on a small smooth-coated dog) to knock down the fleas and test for their presence (available from Amazon, but only rarely at pet stores);
- Flea Dips every other day until all fleas are gone in a dilution of permethrin mixed up in a 5-gallon bucket with lid so it can be reused for weeks (available from Amazon or Tractor Supply);
- Sevin 5% Dust sprinkled into woodchip bedding and the corners of bolstered dog beds (available from Amazon, Tractor Supply, or Lowes):
- Bayer Bio Advanced hose end spray for yard (available at Lowes, Amazon, garden centers).
The fleas are now gone, but I am going to continue to dip the dogs once a week through the hot part of the next month to make sure they do not come back.
