A Permanent Wooden Tent

Misto, the Wee Wolf, exploring the forest with me this morning.

In the eastern US, most black bear den in hollow trees, not caves or dirt dens.

No bear here, of course, but if it was January, and we were up in the mountains just 15 miles away, I might have the dogs on leash at such a location.

Hollow trees had to have been a common shelter for early man and proto-man; they are far more common than caves and, though small, are well-insulated and can be heated by a human body alone.
