Big Nest

Bald eagle nests are generally 5 feet wide and 3 feet deep. The largest recorded bald eagle nest was 9.5 feet in diameter, 20 feet deep and weighed almost 6,000 pounds.

This is an exhibition nest at a Wisconsin nature center. The fellow in the nest is not a bald eagle.

Around here (Washington DC), bald eagles tend to lay their eggs around the first of March to time their egg hatch with the arrival of shad and herring running up stream to spawn, which starts around the end of March or the first week in April.

The above picture is from two years ago. While bald eagles typically lay one or two eggs, this pair had three chicks, one of which was pitched out of the nest to die by its slightly larger brethren.
