The Fire This Time

NASA has a handy tool for seeing actual forest fires around the world.

It's not only the Amazon that is on fire -- so too is the entire Congo Basin (the whole middle of southern Africa).  No one is reporting on fire in the Congo basin!

Are the fires in the Congo a natural process? Just wondering. We do lots of controlled burns here in FL. We have found out that they are part of our local ecology. Quail, especially depend on fire as part of their breeding cycle. Most are caused by lightening. FL is the lighting strike capital of he planet. There is even a lightening laboratory run by UF. You can occasionally get fulgurites (Lightening bolt fused sand) in the experimental fields.
