Eagle Eats Pronghorn Alive

While the size of this Golden Eagle's quarry is unusual, the fact that predators do not always kill quickly or cleanly is glossed over by nature romantics.

Everything born owes Mother Nature a death, and in the wild that death is never on a morphine drip with waltz music in the background.  Thanks to Lucas M. for the clip!

When all of the ground animals are hibernating. The eagles out west turn to larger prey. They chase the pronghorn to exhaustion. Or with sheep ranchers, they do the same with sheep. During lambing season, the eagles watch the 'maternity pods'. Female sheep are bred all at the same time. So the ranchers can more easily lambing season. Problem is that sheep drop their lambs prior to pronghorn birthing season. My friend who did not initially believe the ranchers, videotaped the eagles cooperatively stalking the ewes and chasing them away from the newborn lambs still in their embryonic sacs. He saw 15-20 lambs abandoned by their mothers when the eagles chased them away. He tried to convince the rancher to delay breeding the ewes to time the lambing to occur after pronghorn birthing season to take the pressure off the lambs, but the ranchers would not.
