A Run Runs Through It

This is as Maryland as it gets.

"Sang," of course, is short for Ginseng, while "run" is the local lingo for a creek. In this part of the country we have Bull Run, Dead Run, Turkey Run, Windy Run, Donaldson Run, Lubber Run, Four Mile Run, and Pimmit Run, to name just a few.

"Run" is the local nomenclature used in parts of Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. It has pre-colonial origins, I believe. The map, below, is from Derek Watkins who compiled and mapped differences in U.S. waterway toponyms.  Double click to enlarge.
