What Is It?

This small skull -- the size of my fist -- was found without a front or back end to it, but some hair and skin still on. The grinder teeth mean it's a plant eater, and the stripes in the teeth are common to deer, but the very small size, narrowness, and big eye orbits left me flumoxed, as does the season (middle of December when found).

In the end, I decided it had to be a still-born or baby deer born very, very late in the off-season. It died very shortly after coming down the birth canal. Any other guesses?
