Show Line vs Work: The Irish Setter

At top is an American "Show Line" Irish Setter. In the middle is a UK "Show Line" Irish Setter (this dog is from Northern Irish lines). At bottom is an American Working Line Irish Setter.

One of these dogs can actually get through the brush.  The other two are dog for frustrated hair dressers who have not yet worked out their barbie issues.

Not to mention the deterioration of intelligence and temperament :-(

The 2 show line dogs also have that crouching thing in the hindquarters. Not a good thing in any dog.

Dear Patrick,
Why are two distinct breeds both called "Irish Setters?"

I assume you mean the Irish Setter and the Irish Red and White Setter? A tell that story here >> https://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2007/08/nonsense-on-stilts.html

As with so many things in the world of dogs, I think they need to lump them all as setter/pointers and remove all the distinctions under that. But then I'm a working dog weirdo, same as you. :)

You're right. The HPR breeds (viszla, GSP and Weimaraner) are all basically the same dog with different paint jobs. (With a bit of variation in temperament). We should have an HPR 'type' or land race and just breed whatever within that.
