Some Bird!

This bird is called an Ornate Hawk-eagle. I had never heard of the species before, but stumbled across a picture while looking for something quite different.  It can raise a feather crest on it head.

This species hails from Central and South America.

Quite the paint job!

I've seen these birds in action in falconry. Very fast. Size like a very large red-tailed hawk. Call is like a squeeky toy, The one I saw flew down a cottontail rabbit from the fist.

wow-
looking at the size of its claws and legs, that must be quite the predator...also interesting that they have white skin pigment instead of yellow, and the extra long leg feathering. quite beautiful and unusual.
