Roadside Geology
Shot this out the window, while driving, using my iPhone. Perfect 45 degree lift at the cut near Cumberland, Maryland. The white stuff, of course, are icicles formed by water squeezing through cracks in the rock.
As first observed by James Hutton who was to geology as Darwin was to biology. He first observed this at Salisbury Crags in Edinburgh during "The Enlightenment"

Road cuts are said to be a boon to geology research.
In his books on geology, the great John McPhee teaches quite a lot through road cuts.
