What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Structures like this are the ultimate in hubris. Do we think this will stand forever? Do we consider what happens when it fails? Built by the lowest bidder, it sits as a target for terror in war or peace.
My Dad was a civil engineer who built bridges and dams and such; he said that almost always a series of small dams was cheaper, safer, did less ecological damage than one big dam. The main reason for the mega-dams in his opinion was because they were more profitable for big companies and "because it is easier to hide the graft."
