This is the sound that woke me up at 4:30 this morning. The terriers were still inside, asleep in their beds.
Normally, I hear this in December or January, but life is never simple or cut with square corners.

I'm always amused that esp. in BBC melodramas, this sound is worked in to almost all outdoor at night scenes. For a long time I thought it was some kind of weird night bird, but then I went looking for the sound and discovered fox!
