Watch Raccoon Nation on PBS. See more from Nature.
I saw this last night (very good!) and Paul H. sent me a link (thank you!).
I had no idea Japan had an American raccoon population as well as a Tanuki population. Germany has an American raccoon population too, of course, as I have noted in the past.

I had to look up Tanuki, as I didn't know what they were. I noticed the one taxidermy specimen had a staggering set of testicles on him, and figured it was a Japanese exaggeration. Evidently, it's quite accurate, and so often spoken of that a children's "school yard song" sings of them to the tune of...an American church hymn called "Shall We Gather At The River". I guess ol' Tanuki likes to keep himself clean!
Seahorse
Tanuki have enormous testicles, this is true, they are also a favorite cartoon and store mascot character in Japan as a result.
Tanuki have spread out of firm farms into Russia Sweden, Finland, Poland and Germany and even as far west as France. More here >> http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2005/02/spread-of-tanukis-raccoon-dogs.html
