A Murmuration of Starlings

Murmuration from Sophie Windsor Clive on Vimeo.

This is the time of year when you will see massive mixed flocks of blackbirds and starlings, and I have seem some very good flights, but none as good as this.

A lot of times these big dives and sweeps will be due to a hawk hunting the edges, but I do not see that here. Very nice! Hat tip to Anton Woldhek for sharing.

In the past I have suggested that a flock of starlings be called a vulgarity due to their Latin name, Sturnus vulgaris, but apparently the right world is 'murmuration'. Good to know!

Wow, that was sort of like a black and white daytime version of the Northern Lights. Amazing.
