You can lose a small dog in tall grass! |
|
Water is always plentiful on this farm. |
|
A hole with this much grass around it is not a likely prospect. |
Gideon and Mountain did pretty well in tall grass with soft dirt. Gideon found and bolted one all by himself, and Mountain found two more, which Gideon worked to conclusion.

Gideon wears Sailor's old slide tag -- an honor. |
The holes were shallow, and the dogs came away without a scratch, and I came away without so much as needing an Advil.
The dogs missed the big show of the day, however: a large dog fox mousing among the black angus up in the pasture beyond the hot wire.
Nice!

Mountain honors while Gideon works the hole. |

So if Gideon runs off now and someone finds him, they'll call him Sailor?
He looks as happy as a clam in that grass. That first picture, aside from the full sun-in-the-eyes squint, is a really nice one of him.
So what are they finding down by that beautiful stream? Love all the photos.
Seahorse
Groundhogs. Used to be a lot of them; I figure I have removed more than 80 from this farm, but they are still there in reduced numbers. The bank is as much as four or five feet above the stream, and often perpendicular (i,e, a small cliff). The groundhog holes are breaking down the stream bank, so I have been asked to reduce their numbers. Some progress being made ;)

Looks like you all had an excellent day, so glad Gideon is what you had hoped for. :)
