What's funny is I have a shiba inu, which is one of the least weird breeds of dog. It's built like a wolf, coyote of dingo: pointy face, pointy ears, balanced body proportions, nice warm coat. And where it becomes funny is that she always attracts all kinds of curious people who think it's the weirdest thing in the world. And they all have to say the same stupid thing: "she looks just like a little fox". Hmmmmm... No. She looks just like a little DOG.

I find it disturbing that people don't even recognize a dog that looks like a dog as looking like... a dog.

That's why I love the spitz-type breeds. For the most part and with a few exceptions (the Pomeranian comes to mind...what a MASS of fur), they look like real dogs.

Are those your commentaries in parantheses, Pat? They're quite spot-on!

I do wonder about people who intentionally get these weird breeds. There has to be a reason (other than horrific breeding and rewards for extreme conformation, although something tells me there's probably not many other valid reasons) they're so different.

I do have to admit though, now I'm tempted to get a Cambodian razorback and dye the 'hawk some sort of neon color. It would be a hit with the teeny-boppers.
