- The Fisticup -- Coffee and Provocation
Finally, the perfect product -- part coffee mug and part brass knuckles. Only $14.99 and available in mid-September. - Litigious Egyptian Sues Over Dog Name
A puggle dog named "Anwar Sadat" is the subject of a lawsuit filed by Rokaya Sadat, the eldest daughter of the former president of Egypt, against the makers of the film "I Love You, Man," released March 20, 2009 in the United States by Dreamworks. No, I kid you not. - Man Says His Cat Downloaded the Child Porn
I can hardly wait until this case gets to a jury. One thing is for sure: this fellow's first few weeks in prison are sure going to be memorable! - The Birds are Pretty Damn Smart (and Aesop was too):
The crows really do think and act like Aesop said, putting stones into a jug in order to float food to the top. Amazing. - The FDA May Get Subpoena Power
Up to now the FDA has not had subpoena power. That may soon change, and if it does the food and drug industries may actually fear an FDA investigation. Right now, the toxic dog food makers and peanut poisoners know the FDA can bark, but it cannot really bite. - Cuba Runs Out of Toilet Paper
One of my rules of thumb is to never fear a country that cannot make soft toilet paper. Cuba, however, is now such a basket case that it is actually running out of any toilet paper. How low can you go? - Oregon Legalizes Industrial Hemp Production:
Hemp? Excellent! Oh, it's for paper? Never mind. - Polar Bears Dining on a Whale:
Cool pictures worth seeing. An all he can eat buffet for this bruin. - First Newspapers, Then Malls?
American newspapers are spiraling down the economic drain thanks to the Internet. Are suburban malls next? Maybe. After all, why shop at a mall when better prices and selection are available online? - Plastic "Soup" Is Twice the Size of the U.S.:
Plastic waste floating in the Pacific now covers an area twice the size of the continental United States. - The Blog of Crappy Taxidermy:
Finally, one place is brave enough to document the horror of very twisted minds and very bad craftsmanship. - Apologia - a Poem:
This John Loft poem was found at Another Falconry Blog. I like it! - Creationism Park Is Seized for Back Taxes:
God works in mysterious ways. - Errol Morris and Ricky Jay Discuss Lying in The New York Times:
This is Part One of a seven-part series. I think the whole thing will be really great. - Rocky Mountain Marmots:
A very nice post with great marmot pictures from the Harris Hawk Blog. Did you know there is a marmot museum/zoo in Switzerland? True. See this old post. - Cash for Clunker Refrigerators:
This is not crazy, as refrigerators generally last twice as long as cars and are using energy all the time. The good news is that some states have been doing this for quite a while. - Mountain Lion Killed in Colorado School Yard:
Just what the title says. America now has more wild lions than Africa, which means we are going to have to start thinking about more lion management in some areas. - Minnesota Contracts with Company that Built the Bridge That Collapsed:
But wait ... there's more. The state is suing the company for $37 million even as they give the company $50 million for new construction.

To show you how much that puggle named Anwar Sadat ticked people off, read this from Wikipedia (which obviously breaks Wikipedia rules):
"Anwar Sadat suffered the Egyptian sobriquet 'Nasser's poodle' during his own lifetime. All the more tragic was his assasination[sic] for displaying independence and courage that exceeded Nasser's."

Note to self: Close all browsers with naked cat photos before allowing cat into home office.
Seahorse
It annoys me when reporters can't even get basic mammalogy right in the headline. The polar bear is probably feeding off a young fin or minke whale, not an frakkin' orca.
You and the cool coffee mugs you find online! First the one with the dog heads sticking out, and then this one...I want! (Although I think if I add another mug to the cupboard, something's going to fall out one day and break.)
I think one of the coolest things I've ever seen was when friends leased their land (about 400 acres) to a hemp farmer.
We got to walk the dogs on a tour through the fields... giant hemp plants as far as the eye could see.
Made for some REALLY impressive photos...
