Belted Kingfisher

A Belted Kingfisher hunting for small fish over a creek near the house.

Kingfishers nest underground in holes they drill into high stream banks.

These birds have enormous heads for the size of their body, and have both a very distinctive flight pattern and a very distinctive clicking call.

This bird appears quite grey in this picture, but they are more typically a rather nice blue-grey.
