You Know Your Breed is Fucked When….

YOU KNOW YOUR BREED IS FUCKED when the breed club, which is basically a trade association of breeders, issues a gag order about talking to the press due to fear of losing litigation.

What’s the litigation?

It turns out the suit is from PETA, whose past lawyering has been, to be charitable, laughably abysmal.

PETA is a direct mail mill and an attention-whore factory for aging starlets who have not yet had their fourth face lift, tummy tuck, and boob job.

Still, PETA is at least in court against a very ugly defendant — the American Kennel Club and its lying, ignorant, and deluded supporters.  I feel a bit like Mercutio:  “A pox on both their houses.”

PETA's lawsuit claims: "The AKC’s official breed standards for the bulldog, French bulldog, pug, dachshund and Chinese shar-pei provide blueprints for the breeding of deformed, unhealthy dogs."

Well, that’s true!

The AKC responded, asserting its commitment to protecting "the health, heritage and well-being of purebred dogs" and that “responsibly bred dogs conforming to standards are healthy.”

Well, that’s a lie.

The examples given are good ones.  The famously deformed and sick French Bulldog is the most popular dog in the United States, according to the AKC.  

Of course the AKC thinks there are *only* AKC dogs.  

The fact that well-over 50 percent of dogs in the US are cross-breeds is simply ignored by this cult of breed-blind hairdressers.

The AKC goes on to say “We categorically reject PETA’s mischaracterisations of specific breed standards and their assertion that these standards create unhealthy dogs,” adding that dog health and welfare is “paramount and at the core of our mission.”

Ooh!  More lies!

Dog health and welfare counts for ZERO, or LESS THAN ZERO in the AKC.

Remember, the AKC not only has the final say-so on breed standards, which often celebrate deformity, they also REQUIRE their pedigree dogs to be bred in a closed registry that guarantees high levels of disease due to inbreeding.  

The AKC prohibits breed clubs from requiring health checks or performance standards for registration or show, and the Club and its staff and supporters routinely lie about their role in the business of breeding deformed, diseased, and defective dogs.  

Did you know the AKC gives registration discounts to puppy mills and has said puppy mill dollars are vital to the AKC’s economic well-being?  True!

So good luck to both these fraud factories. May they both choke to the death on the entrails of the other’s children.

A final point:  You do not know anyone who has written more about the fraud factories that are PETA and the AKC than I have.  My opinions are not a quick take, and are based on evidence, not faith alone.

The world of dogs is full of bullshit artists, liars, sniffing pretenders, and dog dealers.  Caveat emptor!

Here’s a hint:  Kennel Club dog breeders do not know more about pedigree dog health than pet insurance companies.
