I’m at the San Francisco Botanical Gardens this morning.
The plant in these photos is called “Gunnera tinctoria,” and it comes from Chile.
The biggest leaf here is 6 feet across. I have my hat on a single leaf in one of the pictures.The stems of the plant are covered in little spikes, and the flower pod is quite spectacular.
